When I met Yani I had recently arrived in the US from Venezuela and my boyfriend had ended our relationship. I was still living in his house with my son. I was confused, frustrated, and depressed. I could not understand how things had crumbled so fast. I was in the middle of an immigration process, looking for a job, single, and practically homeless. My ex had given me days to leave his house. With the existing situation in Venezuela, I feared returning home. Yani sat with me and said, “everything happens for a reason, your ex was a bridge for you and your son to get here.” We had long conversations, and each time she made me feel better. Everything improved quickly! I have a nice job, my ex is now a friend, my son is visiting Spain, and I have found love again. Yani and I laugh at those dark days. She is now a great friend.
