ASKED QUESTIONS

What is permanent makeup?

Also known as Permanent Cosmetics, Cosmetic Tattoo or Micropigmentation, is the art of implanting special pigments in the second layer of the skin, the dermis, formulated from color additives approved for use in food, drugs and cosmetics using tattoo techniques.

When done in natural tones, you can apply on them regular makeup to change their appearance and get a look as dramatic as you want, because the pigment will be under the skin.

01

How to choose the right professional to perform a permanent makeup?

As with any medical or cosmetic procedure, your best option is to choose a Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professional that follows the Code of Ethics, the State Health Regulations and that is kept up-to-date with the education that is offered continuously each year. They must have a license and insurance and be able to show these credentials when you ask for them.

02

How long does it last?

Permanent Makeup is a multi-step process that is required to build layers of pigments. The first time, most people will need at least two (2) sessions. Ideally, each session should take between 4 and 8 weeks, to obtain the perfect color and shape or fill in any pigments lost during the healing process, if necessary, for your total satisfaction.

The longevity of your procedures will depend on personal characteristics, such as lifestyle, type of skin, health conditions, medications you are taking, and follow-up on short and long-term instructions AFTER CARE.

As with anything exposed to type A or B ultraviolet radiation from the sun and the environment, the pigments fade over time to a softer shade than the color initially applied.

At Permanent Makeup International we see our clients anywhere, from 1 to 3 years for an evaluation and, if necessary, to perform a "Retouch or Buster Touch Up" to keep your investment with the best appearance, at half the price that the original procedure was charged.

03

Does it hurt?

Pain is very subjective and different for each person. Throughout the process we use topical anesthesia to reduce any discomfort. Most people describe the sensation as "small pricks or tickling in the skin". Most evaluate the sensation on a scale of 1-10, less than 4. Some even fall asleep!

04

Who benefits from permanent makeup?

Anyone who wants to be refreshed and younger, or if is someone who works long hours or performs activities such as dancing or doing sports and wants to avoid makeup stains.

Clients must be over 18 and not be pregnant or breastfeeding. Permanent makeup is a lasting investment that will make life happier and easier for those who:

  • Are experiencing signs of normal aging such as thinning or the disappearance of hairs on the eyebrows or eyelashes.

  • Are losing definition and thickness in their lips.

  • When the corner of the eyebrows, eyelids and lips are "fallen", lifting them with permanent makeup achieves an illusion of youth and rest of the face.

  • Have any medical or visual condition that interferes with the application of regular makeup.

  • Work or exercise and do not want to worry about makeup smearing or running.

  • Want to look younger / fresher all day, without or even after a plastic surgery procedure.

  • Have allergies to conventional cosmetic makeup.

05

What to expect after the procedure?

  • You will experience a certain degree of swelling and inflammation that will disappear in a few days.

  • The pigment will look stronger and thicker during the healing process (5-10 days). Then, it can fade up to 30%, and more for lip procedures; since you will see the pigments along a new epidermal layer without pigments. The appropriate implanted pigments are deposited in the dermis (second layer of skin).

  • As it heals, a soft crust may appear that will fall on its own in 3-7 days. Do not pull it, as it can cause the loss of pigment that can be replaced in the Touch Up or the second visit.
